I am working with the Engineering Manager of one of my clients & who is urgently looking to recruit a Production Design Engineerbased in their Sheffield (S Yorks)offices.

My Client is an innovative start-up company developing a suite of optical fibre monitoring technologies. The first of these will transform the Water industry into one that is monitored and managed, delivering operational and economic benefits while protecting the environment in which we live.

Financial backing, management and plans are already in place to develop the business significantly over the next 5-Years & they are looking for the type of candidate with both the skills & enthusiasm that will embrace this exciting period ahead.

  1. Summary Overview:

  • Reporting into the Engineering Manager & developing manufacturing processes & methods for successfully bringing new products into production.

  • Working concurrently with design engineers, manufacturing and planning staff, you will advise on design for manufacture and assembly techniques that affect the efficient and effective manufacture of a product or sub system. Successful candidates will join a diverse team applying a broad range of electronic and mechanical engineering techniques.

  • On the job training will be on offer in a number of specialist areas, including Electronic & Optical, Mechanical & Materials & Civil Engineering.

  • Excellent scope for the right candidate to progress their career in a number of directions as the business expands, including Research & Development, System Design & Project Management.

  1. Key Experience/Knowledge/Qualifications:

  • Provision of Production Engineeringtechnical expertise to the business.

  • Evidence of practical ‘Hands-On’ experience e.g. Installation, Testing/Fault-Finding, Maintenance.

  • Knowledge of Fibre Optics, Telecommunications or Water/Sewer Industries desirable (not essential).

  • Problem-solving (Ideally as part of complex systems)

  • Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical or electronic technical drawings.

  • Previous knowledge and experience of Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DfMA) techniques for mechanical or electronic products desirable (not essential).

  • Self-reliance and the ability to work as integral part of a small team.

  • Pragmatic ‘Self-Starter’ comfortable dealing with uncertainty

  • Well organised with good time management skills and able to multi-task.

  • Good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Experience of researching, identifying & analysing information/data in a coherent & logical manner before reaching a substantiated conclusion.

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Maths, Science or Engineering based A-Levels

  • BTEC (Higher Level desirable) or recognized Apprenticeship in an Engineering (Electrical/Electronics/Mechanical) related discipline.

  • CAD Experience would also be advantageous (not essential).

  1. Pay & Benefits:

  • Basic Salary (Permanent) £25,000 p.a.

  • 5 Hour Basic Working Week
