🕑 Mon–Fri, 9:00am–17:00pm, 37 hrs per week, Hybrid (1–2 days per week in office)

💰 £25.00 per hour



About the Role


We are seeking an experienced Planning Ecologist to join our team on a temporary basis. This role offers flexibility with hybrid working arrangements, requiring 1–2 days per week in the office. Please note, you will need to attend the office for your induction.



Key Responsibilities



  • Provide professional ecological advice on planning applications and development projects.

  • Ensure compliance with Habitat Regulations, Environment Act, and other relevant legislation.

  • Apply Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) principles within the planning process.

  • Conduct site visits and assessments to evaluate ecological impacts.

  • Prepare clear, concise reports and recommendations for planning committees and stakeholders.

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, customers, and partners to deliver high-quality outcomes.



Requirements


Essential:



  • Degree-level qualification in ecology or related discipline (or equivalent experience).

  • Professional competence in ecological issues and protected species.

  • Thorough understanding of environmental legislation and planning system.

  • Ability to manage workload, meet deadlines, and work independently.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle with business class insurance for site visits.

  • Right to work in the UK.


Desirable:



  • Membership of CIEEM or ability to obtain membership.

  • Experience in local authority planning context.

  • Practical experience across multiple ecological areas (habitat surveys, biodiversity assessments).



Additional Information



  • Basic Disclosure Certificate and reference checks required.

  • Hybrid working with occasional site visits (outside work and inclement weather possible).

  • Ability to cope under pressure and maintain professional standards.
