Transfer Station Waste Operative (FLT Licence Required)

Berry Construction Recruitment is currently recruiting on behalf of our client, Veolia, for a Transfer Station Waste Operative with a valid Forklift Truck (FLT) licence to join their team at the Marchwood Waste Management Facility.


This is a hands-on role suited to a reliable and safety-conscious individual who is comfortable working in an outdoor, industrial environment.


Working Pattern



  • Days: Saturday to Wednesday (ad hoc shifts as required)

  • Working Arrangement: Fully onsite at all times


Role Overview


You will be responsible for carrying out waste sorting, handling, and packing duties within the Transfer Station, ensuring all work is completed safely and in line with site procedures. The role also involves operating a Forklift Truck to move palletised waste across the site.


Key Responsibilities



  • Safely load and unload palletised waste from vehicles

  • Operate a Forklift Truck to move waste across the site

  • Store waste correctly in line with Transfer Station requirements

  • Check incoming and outgoing waste against documentation

  • Carry out waste bulking and repacking as directed by Site Chemists

  • Handle a range of materials, including:


    • Oil/water mixtures

    • Paper and cardboard

    • Lithium batteries

    • General waste (compaction)

    • Plastic drums and wood


  • Complete daily and weekly checks

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment

  • Follow all health & safety regulations, company procedures, and site rules


Requirements



  • Valid Forklift Truck licence (essential)

  • Basic IT skills

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths

  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures

  • Good understanding of health and safety practices

  • Ability to read and understand work instructions and risk assessments

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work within a team

  • Good work ethic and flexible approach to daily tasks

  • Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors


Desirable (Training Provided)



  • Previous experience in a similar role or waste environment

  • Knowledge of bulk tanker or bulking operations
