EasyJet launches cabin crew recruitment drive
The airline, EasyJet, has announced a new recruitment drive for cabin crew, specifically targeting young people not currently in employment, education or training. The scheme is expected to employ 1,000 cabin crew for 2026, and aims to change young people’s misconceptions about pursuing a career as part of an airline.
Aviation Minister, Mike Kane, spoke to The Guide Liverpool: “It’s fantastic to see British firm, EasyJet, investing in our young people, encouraging and inspiring them into careers in aviation.
We are determined to break down barriers to opportunity in the UK to deliver our Plan for Change so everyone can pursue and progress in rewarding careers.”
Sky cuts hundreds of jobs in shift to streaming era
Media company, Sky, announced this month that they would be cutting approximately 600 jobs in its UK technology division as they move their focus to streaming platforms. The move follows significant investment in Sky’s digital-first services and products.
An additional 300 employees are expected to be redeployed into other roles within the company, and staff at Leeds, Livingston, and Osterley are among those impacted.
UK's first 'super-university' to focus on jobs and training
The University of Kent and University of Greenwich have announced a merger, creating the UK’s first ‘super-university’. Praised as a ‘trailblazing model for higher education’, the merger is set to ‘provide a strong financial foundation’ for both institutions, as well as lower the possibility of redundancies for staff and over cost-cutting measures.
England’s higher education regulator, The Office for Students, has commended the merger and suggested other universities would benefit from following suit as they struggle with economic challenges. It is currently predicted that 40% of English universities are experiencing a financial deficit.
UK employers focus on cyber-security in IT hiring
Research from management company, Robert Half, has recently found that 45% of UK employers are planning to increase permanent headcount in their IT & Technology departments before the end of 2025. Cyber-security tops the list of priorities for investment for many companies, citing it as ‘business-critical’ amid concerns regarding AI and cyber threats.
In addition, 44% of employers believe they'll need to offer higher pay to hire cybersecurity experts, highlighting just how competitive the field has become.
Defence drone company opens new site in Swindon
Defence drone company, Tekever, has announced a new manufacturing site in Swindon, set to be the biggest in the UK. The new site will be the fourth to be opened in the town and will prioritise drones for surveillance and intelligence.
The development will create highly-skilled, well-paid jobs, as well as new education and training opportunities for those in and around the local area.
