I am working with the Engineering Manager of one of my clients & who is urgently looking to recruit a Technical Project Managerbased in their Sheffield (S Yorks)offices.



My Client is an innovative start-up company developing a suite of optical fibre monitoring technologies. The first of these will transform the Water industry into one that is monitored and managed, delivering operational and economic benefits while protecting the environment in which we live.



Financial backing, management and plans are already in place to develop the business significantly over the next 5-Years & they are looking for the type of candidate with both the skills & enthusiasm that will embrace this exciting period ahead.




  1. Summary Overview:




  • Reporting into the Head of Engineering & managing manufacturing processes & methods for the successful introduction & delivery of new products.

  • The successful candidate will be a capable and driven Project Managerwith strong technical background and ability to draw together multiple workstreams, delivering results within colleagues and customers alike.

  • Working concurrently with design engineers, manufacturing and planning staff, you will take the lead for design for introduction & implementation of manufacturing and assembly techniques that affect the efficient and effective manufacture of a product or sub system. Successful candidates will join a diverse team applying a broad range of electronic and mechanical engineering techniques.




  1. Key Responsibilities:




  • Deliver the development programs and early installations to industry standards on time and within budget.

  • Ensure there are clear requirements and deliverables for each project.

  • Co-ordinate and manage academic and industrial partner organizations.

  • Maintain good practice in Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability including compliance

  • with relevant legislation.

  • Support the sourcing requirements of the project and ensure the right logistics and quality

  • assurance processes are in place to allow the projects to succeed.

  • Plan and track contractor costs and resourcing.

  • Maintain detailed project plans.

  • Manage planning and manufacturing installation requirements.

  • Actively manage risks during planning and execution of projects.

  • Communicate project status updates through presentations and written reports.

  • Develop technical project management processes and procedures and train employees.




  1. Key Experience/Knowledge/Qualifications:




  • Undergraduate technical degree or equivalent.

  • Prince 2 or equivalent.

  • Experience managing projects involving multiple stakeholders.

  • Experience of both R&D and delivery projects advantageous.

  • Ability to read and use technical drawings.

  • Hands-on technical experience, preferably in development/innovation desirable.

  • Experience of sourcing and logistics desirable.

  • Negotiation experience.

  • Understanding of Profit & Loss account and experience of budgeting good practice.

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.

  • Experienced user of Project Planning software an advantage.

  • Experience of managing risks in development and/or delivery projects.
