Bideford

7am to 4pm (37 hours)


PAY £13.93 to £14.91 ph


PERMANENT ROLE


Job Purpose:



  • Provide vehicle maintenance and repair services for the Council-owned fleet (approximately 45-50 vehicles).

  • Maintain all vehicles to comply with current legislation, ensuring they remain at this standard both in the workshop and on-site.

  • Service all vehicles within the fleet.

  • Prepare all vehicles for MOT inspections.

  • Work to strict deadlines related to service and health & safety inspections.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Service specialist large goods fleet in compliance with VOSA legislation and maintain standards between service intervals.

  • Attend to vehicle breakdowns, diagnose faults, and perform necessary repairs. Identify and order parts at competitive prices.

  • Prepare vehicles for MOT inspections, including fitting new parts, welding, steam cleaning, fault repair, and minor bodywork repairs.

  • Record repairs and maintenance on official forms and maintain accurate records for each vehicle throughout its lifecycle.

  • Maintain a clean and secure vehicle workshop area, complying with Health and Safety legislation and restricting access to unauthorized parties.

  • Comply with Health and Safety legislation, policies, and procedures.

  • Maintain confidentiality and observe data protection guidelines where appropriate.


This role requires a strong focus on vehicle maintenance, compliance with regulations, and adherence to health and safety standards.



Essential Qualifications and Experience:



  • Qualified to Motor Vehicle Level 2 (e.g., City & Guilds).

  • Full UK HGV driving licence.

  • Completion of 35 hours Drivers CPC Training.

  • At least 7 years in HGV mechanical repair & maintenance.


Desirable Qualifications:



  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.

  • Ability to undertake Continuous Professional Development when available.


Essential Knowledge:



  • Understanding of Health and Safety issues, including Manual Handling.

  • Understanding of HGV vehicle servicing/MOT preparation.

  • Understanding of driver’s hours and defect reporting/recording.


Desirable Knowledge:



  • Understanding of waste/recycling operations.

  • Understanding of vehicle parts procurement.


This role requires a solid foundation in vehicle maintenance and repair, along with a strong understanding of health and safety regulations. Continuous professional development and experience in HGV mechanical repair are also crucial.
